My favorite parts: a topic I want to explore in opera
Operas are generally long. About 2-3 hours. When I say I love an opera, I love it as a holistic whole. I don't love all the arias! Let's not kid ourselves, all operas have low moments where the scenes just drag (see the entirety of Act 2 in La Clemenza di Tito).
Interestingly, when I say I am obsessed with an aria, it's also a very small part of it. Sometimes, it's a phrase. It can be just a word (interestingly, in La Clemenza di Tito).
I'm thinking about my favorite operas and I realize that entire reason for why I love them can be summarized by a musical phrase. I think, I'm going to list all my favorite short phrases in the operas that I love and try to explain why I love them so much. It'll be a fun challenge to force myself to write more.
Though I am a postdoc and writing is my job. I don't understand why I need to insist I write more as a hobby. :/
