My best friend got a TT job interview
I have been best friends with her for over a decade now.
We love each other fiercely. She announced that she got an interview for a TT job near where her partner lives. I'm so happy for her. She has gone through so much shit, but the experience makes her more understanding of others. I hope she gets the job, because she would make a fantastic PI. For one thing, she has other things going through her life. Her life is so rich. A richness that would not be made or destroyed by academia. I think that is important. Scarcity mindset makes one fearful and when one is fearful, they feel powerless. The powerless lashes out to exert control. My best friend will not.
If she gets hired, I think her future students would come out of their degrees as well-rounded scholars with a love for our natural world. As a postdoc that's what I missed sight of: I do research for the love of our strange, beautiful world.
I really hope she gets the job!
